    Climate

    • Malawi has a subtropical climate, with a rainy season from November to May and a dry season from June to August.
    • The best time to visit is during the cooler dry season as it can be hot and humid during the rainy season.

    Language & Currency

    • English and Chichewa are the official languages in Malawi. English is understood by most people in the country.
    • The local currency is the Malawi kwacha (MWK) which is divided into 100 tambala. US dollars are often accepted at hotels. Changing US dollars into kwacha can be done at banks or foreign exchange bureaus. Access to cash machines is available in most larger towns but frequent power cuts can be problematic.

    Visa & Access

    • Most foreign nationals will require a visa for entry to Malawi. Please check with your local Malawian Embassy, High Commission or our travel team for further information. Visas can sometimes be obtained at the port of entry, but this process can be difficult and not guarantee entry. We strongly advise for visas to be obtained before arrival.
    • Malawi’s main international airport is Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe (LLW), followed by Chileka International Airport in Blantyre (BLZ).

    Health

    • At least 6-8 weeks before departure, please visit your local health care provider or travel clinic for any vaccination requirements and to discuss any other potential health risks, such as malaria (where applicable). All travellers should ensure they have a valid travel insurance policy in place.

For any further questions on Malawi or your holiday, contact our friendly travel team who will assist you with any information you require.
