    General Information

    Climate

    • Namibia's climate varies from arid and semi-arid to subtropical. The Benguela current keeps the coast cool and free of rain for most of the year. Inland, all rain falls in summer (November to April). In January and February, temperatures can be very hot, particularly in the interior, but nights are usually cool. Winter (May - October) is generally dry with warm days and cold nights.
    • Wildlife viewing in Etosha is best from June to October, during the dry season. For birders, migratory species visit from October to April.

    Language & Currency

    • English is the official language of Namibia with German, Afrikaans, Oshiwambo, Rukwangari, Silozi, Otjiherero, Damara, Nama, Khisan and Setswana recognised as national languages. Oshiwambo is the most spoken language, with Afrikaans being the most widely understood national language. English is generally a second language reserved for business and tourism.
    • The Namibia dollar and South African rand are the only legal tender in Namibia and both can be used freely to purchase goods and services. Credit cards are widely accepted, however, service stations do not accept card payment for fuel. Access to cash machines is available in the towns and cities.

    Visa & Access

    • Most foreign nationals do not require a visa for entry to Namibia. Please check with your local Namibian Embassy or our travel team for further information. Passports must be valid for a minimum period of six months and have at least three blank pages for entry and exit formalities.
    • Most visitors enter Namibia at Hosea Kutako International Airport east of Windhoek (WDH). Other notable airports are Eros Windhoek (ERS), Walvis Bay (WVB), Luderitz (LUD) and Oranjemund (OMD).

    Health

    • At least 6-8 weeks prior to departure, please visit your local health care provider or travel clinic for any vaccination requirements and to discuss any other potential health risks, such as malaria (where applicable). All travellers should ensure they have a valid travel insurance policy in place.

For any further questions on Namibia or your holiday, contact our friendly travel team who will assist you with any information you require.
